The defining traits of frequently-cycling railgates.
When discussing different models of railgates, a question that is often asked is, "What exactly does High-Cycle mean?" In the liftgate world, the term "High-Cycle" refers to a railgate model that is specifically designed to durably withstand frequent cycling. And, for the liftgate buyer, whether or not a High-Cycle model is the appropriate choice is most easily determined by addressing the lifting application.
For example, if a truck operator has a big van body and is expecting to lift an object less than 1200 pounds two to four times a week, a Standard Railgate model will most likely be sufficient.
However, if that same truck operator is expecting to lift an object in excess of 1500 pounds multiple times daily, then a High-Cycle Railgate would be the more fitting option
The key design factor that distinguishes a Standard Railgate from a High-Cycle Railgate is the “slider.” A slider is the piece of steel that lifts and lowers the liftgate platform by traveling up and down within the outrail.
On Standard Railgate models, the slider is guided through the outrail by a slider pad. This configuration requires the outrail to be lubricated and consistently maintained in order to function most effectively.
Sliders on a Tommy Gate High-Cycle Railgate model travel on hardened steel rollers which feature dual-sealed bearings and composite bushings. These sliders are designed to run up and down, frequently, with greater durability and significantly reduced maintenance requirements.
Aside from design differences, another key factor that differentiates the two classes of railgates is lifting capacity,
Standard Railgate & “Dock-Friendly” Railgate Models are offered with lifting capacities of 1600 & 2000 pounds.
High-Cycle Railgates, including Bi-Fold and Gas Bottle Rack models, are offered with lifting capacities of 2500 & 3000 pounds.
So in the end, what earns a Tommy Gate Railgate the moniker "High-Cycle," are the combined design and lifting capacity differences which produce a stronger and sturdier railgate that will continue to function effectively even through excessive usage.
